Local Resources: Reclaimed Barn Wood

In one of the projects I have been working on we have decided to use a reclaimed beam as a mantle above the fireplace. While researching my wood options I stumbled upon a salvage yard in nearby Irvington called Real Antique Wood and went to pay a visit. I was not disappointed.

The yard is enormous and the wood is stacked miles high. You are welcome to go wander around and they have a showroom filled with knowledgable sales people. There are so many different options to choose from you will be sure to fall in love with at least one, most likely more, hunks of history.

There is so much you can do with this beautiful wood, a mantle is simply one idea. You could top your radiators with a cut to size slab to create a more polished look, clad a feature wall with planks, have a coffee table made – the possibilities are endless. A stroll through the showroom will send your brain in a million directions… but in a good way, I promise! It’s worth a trip!
