Property Video: Five Bedroom Colonial Steps from Maplewood Village

92 Maplewood Avenue is an absolutely darling home! I’ve admired its architectural features for years: its hipped roof, broad overhanging eaves, and petite dormers. And the interiors are just as lovely and welcoming as its exterior features. The second floor features several recent renovations, including a master suite with dressing room and a spacious hall bath with deep soaking tub. But it could have been the second floor laundry room with built-in drying racks and folding table that truly stole my heart.

Reducing plastic in your home – Part I

It’s Earth Day, let’s celebrate our beautiful planet! But it sure isn’t feeling so lovely at the moment. Since moving to this country eight months ago, I have been astonished at the amount of waste that is generated. And I’m not just pointing the finger at everyone else, I’m pointing it right back at me. When I’m carrying my trash and recycling down the hallway I’m aware of how much waste I produce every week,

Trend Alert: Spring Florals

I don’t know if it’s because this winter has felt extra long… but lately I have been noticing floral prints popping up everywhere I look! From home decor to bedding to clothing, everywhere I turn my head my eye is drawn to colorful flowers.

As with all trends, if you wish to bring them into your home you should do so selectively. Just because you are seeing bursts of blooms everywhere and loving it doesn’t mean that you should run out and recover your sofa in a glazed chintz fabric!

Green House Envy

The color green obviously has lots of connotations for being natural and eco-friendly; the color of life and renewal. But it also can be seen as the color of envy. And once we become homeowners the green eyed monster can certainly get a hold of you. Of course Pinterest, Instagram and the property listings on realtor sites can capture a room so beautifully and perfectly; we would love to replicate that in our own homes.

Perceived Value Drives Multiple Offers

Within 48 hours of putting our Maplewood home on the market, we accepted an offer for 10% above its list price. The home was in perfect, turn-key ready condition, and located on a favorite Maplewood street. The sale was thrilling; we were overjoyed by the market’s response.

But this isn’t always the way the story goes. In a fast-paced seller’s market, such as the one we’re in currently in Maplewood and South Orange,

The Incredible Bagster

There have been a lot of renovation projects happening in my neighborhood in the last year or so. Basement and garage clean outs, bathroom renovations, piles of old carpet – such are the things I notice when walking the dog. Along with renovations comes a lot of unwanted debris and, in turn, the problem of disposing of it all.

There are different ways to deal with the mess and my neighbors have pretty much hit them all.

Beekeeping In Early Spring

If you follow me on Instagram you know that I am an amateur beekeeper. A few years ago a friend of mine invited me to get involved with the upkeep of his hives and I jumped at the chance. Who doesn’t want fresh, local honey at their fingertips? So last year I took on half the responsibility and have started to learn the ropes.

Because Maplewood is densely populated, relatively speaking,

Just like Grandma used to make

As I have been musing on eco-paint and having clean air in your home, I have also been thinking about green cleaning products. Whether you want to turn over a new leaf with your spring cleaning this year, or just maintain a cleaner, safer and more eco-friendly house, there are all sorts of things you can do to make a difference to your home environment.

The ingredients for many DIY household cleaners just like Grandma used to make are probably hiding in your pantry cupboard.

Burnham Recessed Radiators

Totally geeking out over Burnham Recessed Radiators over here! I’ve always loved their look and functionality, but now I’m in awe after learning more about them during a recent home inspection.

Did you know these units provide not only radiant heat but convected (hot air) heat, as well? Super cool homeowner factoid!

How do they provide convected heat, you wonder? Well, once the units have been warmed by the steam or hot water system they’re apart of,
